Putin’s friend and the leader of the pro-Russian Opposition Platform – For Life, Viktor Medvedchuk, has filed a lawsuit against Ukrainian historian and journalist Vakhtang Kipiani.
“Putin’s friend and aide, Viktor Medvedchuk, sued me to defend his ‘honour’, ‘dignity’, and ‘goodwill’ and ‘to refute false information’. These are the texts from the book The Case of Vasyl Stus, which we did together with Vivat publishing house (it is the co-respondent in this case),” the historian wrote.
Friend of the Russian president demands to ban the sale of The Case of Vasyl Stus, as well as to admit in court the inaccurate phrase from the book “… the lawyer of Medvedchuk was afraid of the KGB or was he always a cynic and an immoral bloke?”.
The first hearing in the case, according to Kipiani, is due to take place in Darnytskyi Court on October 2, 2019.
Recall that Victor Medvedchuk was the poet’s attorney. Although Stus himself requested to withdraw defence, the court rejected the request. Instead, Medvedchuk pleaded his client guilty, asking the court to take into account mitigating circumstances.
