MEPs sent a letter to President Volodymyr Zelensky urging him not to hand over to Russia a “DPR” anti-aircraft gunner Vladimir Tsemakh, who may be involved in the crash of the MH17 flight in Donbas. This letter was signed by 40 MEPs.
It states that parliamentarians understand the situation in which Russia demands to extradite Tsemakh, which in particular concerns the exchange of Ukrainians.
“But Tsemakh is suspected of the crash of an MH17 flight. The access of the Joint Investigation Team to his testimony is of paramount importance for an effective judicial inquiry,” the letter reads.
Parliamentarians also recalled a UN Security Council resolution requiring all persons directly or indirectly involved in the MH17 case to stand trial.
A copy of the letter was sent to the head of EU diplomacy, Federica Mogherini.
We will remind, earlier law enforcement officers of the Netherlands declared a desire to interrogate Tsemakh. On August 25, the court detained Tsemakh, who may be a key witness in the MH17 case, for two months.
