Head of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court Olena Tarasevych announced the launch of the court. According to her, the institution starts its activity in the shortest possible time.
“Supreme Anti-Corruption Court is set to start operating as soon as possible. The court is ready to fulfil its duties,” the court chairman said.
Olena Tarasevych reminded that the jurisdiction of the Supreme Anti-Сorruption Court extends to the whole territory of Ukraine.
According to preliminary estimates of the State Judicial Administration, more than 3,000 criminal proceedings are to be received from the local general courts to Supreme Anti-Corruption Court, of which only 190 are those for which the pre-trial investigation was completed by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecution.
The assembly of judges elected the investigating judges – six people. At the pre-trial stage, they will exercise judicial control over the observance of human rights and freedoms.
President Volodymyr Zelensky, for his part, promises to help the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court get rid of small-scale cases and work to bring to justice those who are truly corrupt.
“I understand that there are problems now. Problems that we have not yet resolved. This is a matter of jurisdiction. Some of us – let’s not mention names – have tried at the legislative level so that all your work can be filled up with thousands of small cases.
We will help. I know that you expect to investigate over 200 high-profile cases of theft, with the terrible actions of corrupt officials and top officials. We will help you to be free to handle these cases and to have all these people really punished,” the President stressed.
