Russian President Vladimir Putin pardoned 11 Ukrainian citizens, said the coordinator of the group of protection of Ukrainian prisoners of war Mykola Polozov while talking to reporters near the Boryspil airport.
According to him, 35 previously detained citizens flew to Ukraine from Moscow.
“According to the information I received, 35 people (fly to Ukraine – ed.). Regarding 11 Putin issued pardon decrees, 24 sailors were released under Denisov’s personal obligation,” Polozov said.
He also added: “Russia could not ignore the decision of the United Nations International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, the tribunal, so they call it an ‘exchange’.”
“If it were not for the sailors’ case, if we could not reach this decision of the tribunal, I am not sure that the return of Ukrainian political prisoners would happen in such a short time,” Polozov said.
